Optimize your separations: Discover Teledyne’s flash columns
Many lab technicians often use silica or C18 columns, but Teledyne offers a wider range of flash columns that can make your separations even more efficient.
In addition to the classic silica and C18 columns, Teledyne offers specialized options such as C8, amines and C18aq. Each of these columns is tailored to specific applications and allows for more precise separation of your samples.
Resolution with speed: With RediSep Gold technology, Teledyne LABS offers a spherical silica gel that provides excellent performance without increased back pressure. This results in twice the resolution of conventional flash columns, enables faster separations with less solvent and provides better separation – all at a lower cost compared to silver columns.

Our flash columns in detail
Normal phase column: silica gel (SiO₂)
Features:
- Highly polar stationary phase
- Interacts with non-polar to moderately polar compounds via hydrogen bonds and dipole-dipole forces
Ideal for:
- Non-polar to moderately polar compounds (e.g. lipids, fats, alkaloids)

Reversed phase columns: C18 & C18aq
C18 – The all-rounder
Features:
- Long-chain hydrophobic modification
- High retention for non-polar to moderately polar substances
- Standard pore size: 100 Å – suitable for small to medium-sized molecules
Ideal for:
- Active pharmaceutical ingredients, lipids, pesticides, small peptides
C18aq – Specialist for aqueous mobile phases
Features:
- Specially developed for 100% aqueous mobile phases
- Stabilizes the retention of polar analytes
- Pore size: 100 Å – suitable for small hydrophilic molecules
Ideal for:
- Hydrophilic drugs, metabolites, polyphenols

Faster elution: Reversed phase C8 (octyl) with 200 Å pore size
Features:
- Shorter alkyl chains → different retention and selectivity than C18
- Increased pore size (200 Å) – specially developed for larger molecules
Why 200 Å?
- Provides a larger effective surface area for bulky molecules
- Prevents steric hindrances for larger analytes
Ideal for:
- Steroids, water-soluble vitamins, peptides and larger pharmaceutical products

Special column: Reversed and normal phase amine (NH₂) with 100 Å pore size
Features:
- Amino-functionalized phase for polar interactions
- Strong hydrogen bonds and ionic interactions
- Pore size: 100 Å – suitable for small to medium polar analytes
Ideal for:
- Carbohydrates, aldehydes, basic medicines, small polar molecules
